Time to clear out the shed. I've stacks and racks of cabling stuff to get rid of. Wall mount frames, wall plates, MDVOs, BIX waffers, patch panels and hundreds of meters of Cat5. Anyone want any of it before I head over to Ebay?

OH! I could do with some Cat5!

Professur

How much? Most of it is boxends of about 100'. Pretty good since ethernet is limitted to 300' maximum runs.

How many meters is 100'?

Professur

33

*scratches head*

It would prolly be cheaper for me to go buy it then pay shipping on like 90meters of Cat5 woudln't it?

Nixy
7-10-03, 8:52am
OH! Before that last post even matters...does this stuff already have the ends on it?

Professur

What kind of end? No, this is straight unshielded twisted 4 pair cable, FT-4. What you use for pulling through wall. You're looking for patchcords, aincha?

Nixy

I think CAT5 is what I want but I don't have a crimping tool :(

Professur

I do.

Nixy
7-10-03, 9:31am
So, I guess I have to be looking for patch cords since I don't have a crimping tool...

Professur
7-10-03, 9:33am
lemme guess. You're looking for 100 m patchcords, rihgt?

Nixy
7-10-03, 10:42am
No, no, no, I just wanna have some incase I ever need them.

I realize what you have is in 33m pieces.

When I networked our computers at my house I have to pay a pretty penny for a networking cable.

Professur

Look for a wholeseller. Future Shop sells 25' patchcords for nearly $30. I've a place where I buy exactly the same cables for $7.50.

Nixy
7-10-03, 11:28am
Yes! That is what I need! I paid almost $30 for a 40 or 45' cross over cable

Professur
7-10-03, 8:09pm
Yikes. Well, if you still need it, I can crimp one together for ya, but shipping it'll cost some. It's heavy.

Nixy

I already got one. I need to get a straight thru cable of the same length for September prolly. Like you said though, shipping woudl prolly make it not even worth it...

Professur
7-16-03, 7:40pm
Why would you need a straight through?

Nixy
7-17-03, 8:30am
Cause I do not have enough coaxial cable to move the modem to my brother's room but chances are he isn't gonna wanna move his computer back downstairs either...So, I will need to run the cable from the modem in my room to his computer in his.

Prof,
what do you think it would cost to send 10-100' (1000')

catocom

Nixy

Professur

Dunno, Cat. I'll weigh a piece and look it up.

Nix, I still have to get a new jiffy bag. Haven't had time this week.

cool.
All the stuff I have left after this recent job
has wound up being copped up to 25' and less.
I've been looking around at getting another 1000'
spool, but if we can get together on price, and the
shipping isn't too back, I might need 2000'. ;)

catocom

What kinda price are you looking for?

Professur

Cost of shipping. For friends at least. The bits don't cost me anything. They're right outta our bin.

catocom

well get me a shipping estimate.
If the shipping isn't too bad, I'll atleast throw you a "couple ah bones"
for your trouble.
I haven't ever converted, or sent moneys out of country. (except with credit card)
I'll have to figure that part out.
